"FORM FOLLOWS..."
"I focus on impracticality in todays fashion world with the contradiction; practical versus impractical, reflecting on our “dress to impress” society where people often prioritise appearance over practicality, resulting in a disconnection from the original purpose of garments.
I draw inspiration from the military uniforms of the Hussars from early modern Hungary. They were known for their colourful and richly designed uniforms, however, these only displayed wealth and position, and were highly impractical. In my project, I created looks derived from archetypical garments that are traditionally practical, and made them impractical by rethinking their functional elements. I want to create a sense of curiosity by aiming to push the boundaries of archetypical garments, embracing a sense of playfulness, blending the recognisable with the unexpected, creating a collection that serves as a statement on the choices we make as consumers."

VERBORGEN VORMEN

I observed the Heemraadsingel in Rotterdam, and got inspired by the abundance of shapes, colours that usually go unnoticed.
My intention with this collection "Verborgen Vormen" ("Hidden Shapes") is to highlight the beauty in the small details of everyday life--like the colours and shapes in our daily routines that can easily be missed--and create a sense of discovery and appreciation to the often unnoticed beauty in our world.

INTERDEPENDENCE
june 2024
This look is inspired from a previous DIGITAL COLLECTION where I focused on interdependence."In the future, a unique world has emerged in society where everyone has been shaped into equality. There is a complex web of connections among people -- no one stands alone anymore, an everyone depends on others for their existence.People are like interwoven threads, forming a collective consciousness. People breath together, think together, feel together, connected by interdependence. This connectedness is further strengthened by the ability to link garments to other garments. The aesthetics, colours and fabrics all contribute to shaping a common language.

INTERDEPENDENCE: A FUTURE WORLD
In this animation video of a speculative future world, I focused on "interdependence"."In the future, a unique world has emerged in society where everyone has been shaped into equality, like puzzle pieces that fit perfectly together. There is a complex web of connections among people -- no one stands alone anymore, an everyone depends on others for their existence.People are like interwoven threads, forming a collective consciousness. People breath together, think together, feel together, connected by interdependence.

"I interviewed a contemporary dance group, where I learned that moving in a group feels like a whole; they feel connected, and everyone takes each other into consideration. This also applies to my future world. Life has become a shared experience. In this reality, the true meaning of life lies in togetherness, where each person is a part of a larger whole, and the essence of life is interconnectedness.

CAMPAIGN:
THE SHIRT

december 2023
In this campaign I embellished an ordinary white shirt with a material sample from my textile book, inspired by the Heemraadsingel.
"In the realm of creativity, there exists a multitude of shapes and colours that you usually miss at first glance, concealed by the obvious. These elements lie underneath layers, waiting to be seen by those who are curious enough to look beyond their first glance.I was walking through the Heemraadsingel in Rotterdam observing the same thing; there are loads of shapes and colours that usually escape your notice.I embellished this ordinary white button-up shirt by knitting ladders and securing them with latex, creating a unique window. The ladders act like steps that guide your eyes through the layers, and with the latex creating a special lens that lets you peek through layers and see what is hiding underneath. This shirt is a metaphor for telling people to give yourself an opportunity to explore the concealed beauty that lies beneath the surface.

DENIM
FORECASTS
SS25
In January 2024 I was asked by Bluemood, a denim service agency, to create denim forecasts for SS25.I learned how denim styles evolve over time, and is influenced by changing consumer tastes and innovative design concepts. I now understand how something becomes trending, which helps you grasp what consumers are currently looking for. I found it fascinating to see how different trends keep coming back in time.
ARCHETYPICAL
GARMENTS

june 2023
I focused on archetypical (stereotypical, classic) garments. The ones I concentrated on were; the white T-shirt, the tutu, and the royal military jacket. With these garments as a starting- and inspiration point I created a collection of 10 looks, of which 1 perfect toile. I studied these garments from shape to stitch-lines. I started making collages to find out ways to combine our archetypical garments. I wanted to find a balance between the neutral white T-shirt, the big tutu shape, and the abundance of details of the royal military jacket. How can these shapes be manipulated to create a new garment?

Taking my starting point, the hungarian hussars, who only "dressed to impress", as inspiration for colour use and keeping their powerful impression in the back of my mind, hopefully achieving a collection that serves as a statement on the choices we make as consumers.

NATURAL
DYEING
In January 2023 I did a project to expand my knowledge of natural dyeing techniques. I did a lot of research about different materials to use, what fabrics, how the color can be manipulated, and also did a lot of experimenting with it, for instance what happens if I keep the fabric in the dye for a bit longer?, etc.
